Hello World
Hello, World!#
I'd like to give you a warm welcome to my blog. I'm Nico Enking, a software engineer with a passion for building innovative and user-friendly applications.
Not only do I love to build, but I also love to share my knowledge with others. I'm excited to share my thoughts and experiences with you in the upcoming posts.

At work my focus is all about Developer Experience, making the daily life of our engineers a bit better every day.
Developer what? you might ask. Well, let me explain.
In big organizations like mine, we have a lot of engineers working on different projects. There's a big need for standardization and consistency in tooling. You probably hate context switches as much as I do. And what could be better then to improve highly manual and unnecessary processes?
My passion for automation#
I'm passionate about automation. Some might say I'm obsessed with it. I love to automate everything I can. From my daily tasks to my work processes. I find it fascinating how I can save so much time and effort by automating repetitive tasks.
Not only at work but also at home I try to automate as much as possible. I love Home Assistant and have automated pretty much everything in my house.
There isn't a single device that doesn't have a sensor or an automation attached to it. Damn, I love dashboards.
That can't be all, right?#
Of course not. We found that only automating processes is not enough. In an enterprise landscape (especially in older companies) tooling is often fragmented and not consistent. We had the need to not only automate, but also provide a central entry point for our engineers, providing overviews and insights into their applications and accessible tooling for their daily tasks.
For this we didn't chose a commercial product, but instead relied on Backstage, a great platform to build Developer Portals. I might get into more detail about this in a future post if my employer allows it.

My tech stack is quite classical for a web app engineer.
- I love fullstack
- I love tight coupling between frontend and backend (looking at you, tanstack)
- I love a good looking UI/UX
- I love the modern ecosystem of Node.js and Bun
- I despise Maven and Spring. (Ever set up an example project only to get 1000 line long stack traces?)
I'm often experimenting with new tools and technologies. I find it fascinating how the ecosystem is evolving and how new tools and frameworks are emerging.
We might get into that stuff in more detail in a future post. Stay tuned!
